Under proposition 13, which was adopted by California voters in 1978, property tax values are only allowed to increase by 2% annually. The California State Board of Equalization has posted the new 2010/2011 California Consumer Price Index to which property taxes may actually decrease. As suspected this year the CCPI actually went down by .237% which will result in a decrease across the board in property taxes that are currently assessed under Proposition 13.
For more information visit the California State Board of Equalization website or call our office if you need property tax advice or services.

On January 1, 2009 the California local county Assessors will no longer be required to conduct four (4) year audits of all taxpayers with over $400,000 of trade fixtures and business personal property.
California Assembly Bill 550 (AB550) removes the “mandatory audit” provision in the revenue and taxation code 469 and instead requires the county Assessors to conduct “a significant number of audits”.
What does this mean for you….. You may, or may not, be audited every four years and you may, or may not, be audited at will.
Our firm is already seeing audits take place in three (3) year cycles for our clients. Also, these audits are becoming more aggressive in determining revenue generation for the counties who lack sufficient property tax revenue in California.
Let me know if you have any questions.
What will this mean for your audit planning, accruals, etc.?
